Public Health delivers nursing services and helps to coordinate health-related services to many individuals in the community. Services include, pregnancy case management, developmental screenings, fluoride treatments, immunizations for children under the age of 19, and providing school services to contracted schools within the county. Public Health also participates in the Child Safety Seat Distribution and Cribs for Kids programs.
Pregnancy Case Management is open to all expecting mothers at any time during their pregnancy and up to 12 weeks postpartum, regardless of how many times you have parented. No eligibility requirements are needed. This program is here to help, support and educate expecting mothers in collaboration with your physician to understand the changes that will occur during this time. You will meet with a Registered Nurse monthly to help both you and your baby have a healthy pregnancy.
Ages and Stages Development Screenings are a reliable screening tool to help measure development in 5 main domains: communication, gross motor, fine motor, problem solving, and personal-social. These are designed for all children until the age of 5 and are free to all.
Fluoride varnish is a protective coating that is painted onto teeth to help prevent new cavities and to help stop cavities that have already started. These don’t take the place of seeing a dentist but can help fill the gaps between cleanings. This service is available for all children until the age of 6 (payment may be requested depending on insurance coverage).
Immunizations are provided to children under the age of 19 who have Medicaid or no insurance coverage. South Dakota Department of Health is in network for a select private insurance so please call the office for more information. Flu shots are also available during flu season to all individuals (payment may be requested depending on insurance coverage).
School services are provided to contracted schools within Codington County. Services provided range depending on school needs but can include health screenings and education topics.
The Child Safety Seat Distribution Program focuses on keeping children safe by providing child safety seats at no cost to families that meet income eligibility requirement to ensure they are in the best child seat for their height and weight.
Cribs for Kids Program helps income eligible families by providing a portable crib who many not otherwise be able to afford one or have no other option. Cribs for Kids helps to prevent sleep related deaths by providing education on the importance of practicing safe sleep.
